Accessibility Statement
Last updated: September 18, 2026
GnomeOwner is built for volunteer HOA boards and the residents they serve — a broad, non-technical audience. Making the product usable by people with disabilities isn't a checkbox for us; it's part of building something a self-managed board can actually run on.
Our conformance target
We design and test to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and we're working toward 2.2 AA. We don't claim full conformance — accessibility is an ongoing practice, not a one-time certification, and a site of our size and age will always have gaps we haven't found yet. What we can say is what we actively do:
- Readable by default. Body text is at least 16px, and our color choices target a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for text and 3:1 for meaningful icons and UI controls.
- Keyboard operable. Every feature is reachable and usable without a mouse, with a visible focus indicator that shows where keyboard focus is at all times, including a skip-to-content link on every authenticated page.
- Screen-reader friendly. Interactive controls carry accessible names and labels, and page structure uses semantic landmarks and headings.
- Respectful of motion sensitivity. Animations and transitions honor your device's "reduce motion" setting.
- Plain-language numbers. Dollar amounts, dates, and statuses carry plain-English context instead of raw figures alone.
Known limitations
We want to be upfront about where accessibility is outside our direct control or still a work in progress:
- Documents your association uploads (governing documents, meeting minutes, scanned PDFs, and similar files) are shown as provided. If a document your board uploaded isn't accessible to you, we encourage reaching out to your board — GnomeOwner doesn't alter the content of documents your association gives us.
- Payment pages for dues and fees are hosted directly by Stripe, our payment processor, on their own infrastructure and subject to their own accessibility practices.
- Exported PDFs and letters (receipts, notices, welcome packets) reflect the content and formatting of the source data and may not carry the same accessibility features as the in-app experience.
Feedback
If you run into an accessibility barrier anywhere in GnomeOwner, please tell us — specific reports (what page, what you were trying to do, what happened) help us fix things faster than general ones. Contact us at support@gnomeowner.com; we aim to respond within 5 business days.
This statement is reviewed at least annually and updated as our product changes.
